GLOSSARY

The words of field operations, explained plainly.

Each term gets a short definition and an example from the field. Where Sinkaos has something to do with it, we say so.

After-action review
A structured debrief after an operation or exercise: what was meant to happen, what did, why, and what changes.
CIMIC
Civil-military cooperation: how armed forces coordinate with authorities, emergency services and NGOs.
End-to-end encryption
Encryption where only the sender’s and recipients’ devices hold the keys, so the server passing the data along cannot read it.
Geofence
A virtual boundary on the map that raises an alert when someone or something enters, leaves or stays too long.
Incident command system
A common command structure for an incident: one commander, clear functions, and a span of control people can manage.
METHANE report
A seven-part message that the first responders on scene use to describe a major incident to control and to other services.
MGRS
The Military Grid Reference System: a grid coordinate format used by NATO forces and many rescue teams.
Offline-first
A way of building apps that treats no signal as normal: work is saved on the device and synced when a link appears.
SITREP
A situation report: a short, regular summary of where an operation stands and what comes next.

Try it on your next operation.
